Project Snapshot

  • Location: Tokai, Cape Town

  • Scope: Double garage build with upper-level lounge; full area revamp

  • Key features: New roof, exposed trusses, high-volume ceilings, modern finishes

  • Timeline: 2 months

  • Goal: Combine practicality (secure parking + storage) with lifestyle improvements

This double garage renovation Tokai was designed to give the homeowners both functionality and a space to enjoy everyday life.

The Brief: Practical Meets Lifestyle

The homeowners wanted a garage that was more than just a parking space. They envisioned a double garage renovation Tokai that would also include a versatile upper-level lounge. The goal: a space that could handle vehicles, storage, and entertain family and friends.

Tokai’s leafy streets and generous plots make it ideal for renovations like this, and our plan maximised the footprint while creating a stylish, open area above the garage.

Design First: Make Every Square Metre Work

Planning was key for this double garage renovation Tokai. The garage needed to be functional and accessible, while the upstairs lounge had to feel open, bright, and inviting.

Three early decisions set the tone:

  1. Keep the footprint simple for speed and durability

  2. Expose the trusses upstairs to create more volume

  3. Install a robust new roof that complements the home

These decisions ensured the double garage renovation Tokai would deliver both style and practicality.

Structure & Services: Built to Last

Once foundations and walls were in place, we focused on long-term quality. This double garage renovation Tokai included:

  • Reinforced load-bearing structure for the upper lounge

  • Proper waterproofing and insulation for Cape Town’s climate

  • Electrical planning for lighting and outlets in both garage and lounge

  • Tidy installation for clean, professional finishes

Every detail mattered in making this double garage renovation Tokai a success.

The Roof & Exposed Trusses

The new roof is the quiet hero of this double garage renovation Tokai. Upstairs, instead of a standard ceiling, we exposed the trusses. This decision:

  • Added natural volume and openness

  • Created architectural interest

  • Provided opportunities for layered lighting

The result is a lounge that feels spacious and welcoming, highlighting the clever design behind this double garage renovation Tokai.

Finishes: Calm, Modern, Durable

The interior of this double garage renovation Tokai was finished with understated, durable materials:

  • Flooring that handles daily traffic

  • Neutral walls for flexibility in decor

  • Clean joinery and trims

  • Layered LED lighting for ambiance and practicality

These finishes ensure the garage and lounge are not just functional, but also stylish and easy to live with.

The Entertainment Area: Where It All Comes Together

The upstairs lounge is the heart of this double garage renovation Tokai. Whether it’s movie nights, hosting friends, or enjoying a quiet coffee, the space adapts beautifully.

  • Open layout for flexibility

  • High-volume ceiling for a sense of spaciousness

  • Power and data outlets for modern living

  • Future-proof design for potential guest suite or studio

This area proves that a double garage renovation Tokai can offer more than storage—it can truly enhance daily life.

Two Months, Start to Finish

Thanks to careful planning and coordination, this double garage renovation Tokai was completed in just two months. Efficient project management and teamwork meant the new garage and lounge were ready on schedule, without compromising quality.
